Creative homeschool projects: The hadith of the four best women

Home school project ideas: Booklet based on the hadith of the four best women in Islam
With the number of blogs and education websites that are available now, it seems that ready made printables are becoming the work of choice for both parents and teachers because they offer a ready-to-go solution for quick easy lessons.

And this is awesome, don't get me wrong, I love a printable...I make and share plenty of them!

However, I fear that with this ease we as parents and educators find, we are kinda short-changing our children by not giving them so much opportunity to be creative and more hands on in their approach.

And this creative thinking is so important to their growth.

One thing I love seeing is kids original work. I'm not so imaginative when it comes to setting out projects, so being able to see what other families have done certainly helps me to direct the girls workings in a more authentic way.

It's not often I share the kids own work because I don't want the blog to be a huge open window into everything we are personally doing.
However with that being said, I appreciate the value that offering such glimpses have; because I've taken huge influence from blogs such as Growing in the Deen whose original work provides an enormous amount of inspiration.

I figured there may be some benefit in sharing some of our projects as a way to offer suggestions and ideas you might be able to take away and use, rather than just finding something ready prepared to print.

And so I have created a Homeschool project ideas tab, where I'll start to do just that inshaAllah.

For our first sharing, this is a project based on the hadith of the four best women:

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said:

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) drew four lines on the ground, then he said, “Do you know what this is?” We said, “Allaah and His Messenger know best.” The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The best of the women of Paradise are Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid, Faatimah bint Muhammad, Aasiyah bint Mazaahim the wife of Pharaoh, and Maryam bint ‘Imraan – may Allaah be pleased with them.”

(Narrated by Ahmad, 2663. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1135)

Using this hadith, a booklet was made to explain briefly who each of these women are, May Allah be pleased with all of them.

Materials used:

  • Craft flowers
  • A4 glitter card (from a pound shop)
  • Patterned craft papers
  • Stick on gems (from a pound shop)
  • Old ribbon.
  • To prevent the paper bubbling when using glue, double sided tape was used instead.
  • Sizziz Big Shot die cutting machine (to cut the tag shapes)

Let's all get more creative, and while the ready prepared printable will always have a place in my heart and will never be banished from my kitchen table, its time to start getting more original inshaAllah.
