Jolly Phonics - Montessori fusion lapbook 3

Again long overdue, the 3rd in the Jolly-Montessori fusion style lapbooking series, covering letters  g, o, u l, f, b
As with all the previous lapbooks in the series, 2 download options are available for whatever preference you have for your consonant and vowel colours.

Blue consonants and red vowels (as used with the Learning resources alphabet)
download HERE!

Red Consonants and blue vowels (as used with the Montessori movable alphabet)
download HERE!

Activity after completing the lapbook:

Use a movable alphabet to copy and spell the simple CVC words in the middle of the folder. Help child to sound out the letters  to put together the full word, for example,

taking the word "sip"...
Child copy the word, finding the letters from the movable alphabet to spell. Then ask the child to read each letter sound "s" "i" "p". (make sure the letter sound is sounded out and not the letter name).
Help child to blend the letters to say the word, or ask what word can you hear, and you sound out the letters.

Continue making new words with all letters used from past lapbooks.

  1. Assalamu alaikum sister,
I wanted to write you personal message. But I did not know how to contact you. I just write from here.
I just make my question short:
Do you actually use Jolly Phonics books? I got them from library thinking to teach my daughter phonics. I was so sad to see things like beach, birthday party etc., How did you manage those pictures? I just do not want to expose my daughter to such pictures. Thinking to glue the parts that I do not find islamic.
Can you please share your experience?

  2. Wa'alaikum asalaam wa rahmatullah,

Yes they do have rather deflating images!

I find a thick black permanent marker pen is useful rather than sticking pages together, especially as the pages are hard-backed.

With the Jolly Phonic handbook, (which is a photocopiable book of phonic worksheets and simple spellings), I think if I remember right, there is a picture of a girl blowing out candles on a birthday cake - we would just not give that sheet and miss it out.

We used jolly phonics with my eldest, and Alhamdulillah it did help us a lot.
We didn't have a clue how to teach our kids how to read or where to start. I found the Jolly Phonics programme easy to use and allows you to teach reading easily without any planning on your part. (I think I have a few old posts on here of how I may have adapted jolly phonic handbook lessons to make it more interesting to my eldest)
We started using the Jolly Phonics programme when my eldest was 4.5 years old and she didn't know the complete English alphabet when we started, - if I remember right, within 2 or 3 months she was reading simple words and writing Alhamdulillah.

However with my younger daughter, I have to admit we haven't used it so much and I've tried to make my own resources a bit more.

I still intend to complete the lapbook series inshaAllah....I just need to find the time to sit down and do it inshaAllah!

  3. Assalaamu'alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh, umm. My name's Laila, I come from Indonesia. I really appreciate what you've shared in this blog, jazaakillah khairan katsir wa baarakallaahu fiik, this blog has been very helpful and exciting. Oh, and please excuse my English. :)

I really interested in your lapbook, would you please tell me what program did you use to make that kind of worksheet, planner, etc. I want to make one for my 3 years old son, so that he can trace letters and start learning to write in the fun way.

Please keep doing the good work. May Allah subhanahu wata'ala bless you and your family.
