Raising children upon tawheed...

raising children upon tawheed

A mother recently had a conversation with her 6 year old. She can't remember what her daughter was doing at the time, whether she was eating a meal or reading a book; but they were sat at the kitchen table.
The girl randomly without prompting, told her mother that she is so happy that she was not born into a "family of shirk" because if she was, then they would teach her to do shirk and other things which displease Allah!

Alhamdulillah, indeed all praise is for Allah, this girl's mother felt so humbled by her daughter's thoughts.

A child so young understanding the difference between being upon Tawheed or being upon Shirk, and being thankful for not being born into a family calling to the later.

This child is vast approaching the age of Tameez, and her discussion showing her understanding of the differences between Tawheed and Shirk and their implications demonstrates this.
May Allah guide her and her family, keep them on the Sirtatul Mustaqeem.

I think it is too easy to forget what our purpose of creation is, and if we don't forget, then at the very least many of us will side-line it, even if not consciously or on purpose.

It is easy to get caught into the web of the Dunya, entangled and trapped by non-Islamic social and academic pressures and expectations.

As home educating mothers, we're not immune from this. I'm sure many of us feel the pressure from mainstream society who eagerly watch with pointed fingers, waiting to see if our children fail their exams at the hands of us, their parents "who thought they could do better than the schools!"

Sometimes (well, I say sometimes but actually, quite often) I look at myself and my children and think what do I think I am doing? Am I going to ruin their future? ....and that's when I have to pinch myself and remember the purpose for which we were created, as Allah has told us in the Qur'an.....

I have only created jinns and men, that they may serve Me.
Surah adh-Dhaariyaat (51):56

We have been created to worship the One Who created us.

This is where my pinch wakes me up to reality, and gives me a stark reminder on those days when everything seems to be going wrong, the kids are not listening, the chores have mounted up and the waswas comes telling me to just send them to school; you will have so much more time for yourself!

On those days where we feel like it is too much....the laundry is overflowing and we feel like we are swiming in dust.....stop and remember why Allah has Created us, and then be thankful, our children are thankful, once they reach they age of Tameez to be upon Tawheed, subhanAllah, wa alhamdulillah, wa la illaha illAllah wa Allahu Akbar!

May Allah guide all of us and our children.

  4. wa alaikum asalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu!

Ukhtee Mahdiya, may Allah grant you and your family eternal sucess and make your affairs easy!

Ukhtee, there are many children who go to school and remain strong believers with the Guidence of Allah subhanAllah wa Alhamdulillah!

Something I always remind myself, is that it is Allah Whom Guides who He wills. Prophet Nuh was a Prophet of Allah yet he was unable to guide his son....so who are we in comparison to a Prophet?
It is Allah Who Guides, and we make dua'a for ourselves and our children that we all be guided...whether our kids go to public school, private school or home school.

    Allahu Musta'an!
Do you have a Muslim community where you live?
